Scratchlab, London, Kanye Release Party, John Legend Loves Hip Hop, Guv Live To Air & More.. Another Crazy Week!

Yo! Firstly, thanks to everyone who’s been logging on the site, emailing me, BBM’ing, etc.  Your support & words of motivation always mean a lot.  Sometimes I get caught up and messages get lost in the shuffle and I’m not able to hit people back right away & I apologize for that.  Bare with me, as I am working on a lot of things right now and don’t have much free time to stray from my goals..  Please do remember, for all bookings to please email bookings@mediaphase.com !

It just dawned on me that November is pretty much a wrap.. I’m sitting here with my calender in front of me, organizing the week, and I’m in December! Where the hell did 2007 go?! Wow. All good though, we need to keep it moving forward…!!

This next week will be another busy one, here is where I will be:

- John Legend Private Post-Concert Party!
Friday night I was supposed to be at The Vault Lounge in Waterloo, but I got an interesting phone call on Saturday.  John Legend is performing at Massey Hall and will be at The Guvernment aka My Saturday Night Home (see below) following his performance for a scheduled club appearance. Following that, he will be holding his own private party where he wants to hear 80 % hardcore, grimey, hip hop all night, with a little classic r&b! You know I love my grimey hip hop, right? This will be a fun one.. 100 or so people, John Legend, a lot of important suits & execs, and yours truely banging out Biggie & Group Home all night!
I’ll be solo as Tilt & Lancelot will holding me down in Waterloo, but I will take some video & pics to post on here!

Saturday - The Guvernment & Z103.5 FM ‘Live to Air’
So this Saturday will be the 4th week of our new Saturday night residency inside of Canada’s biggest & baddest nightclubs “The Guvernment”.  Each week we are live-to-air on the biggest commercial radio station in the country from 11pm-12midnight (that’s a lot of listeners).  It’s a commercial station, and it’s a mash-up room (we’re in The Drink) so you might catch me playing anything from Keri Hilson, to Lil Wayne, to The White Stripes, to Green Velvet on the live-to-air.

Entry is guestlist only, so make sure to hit me up if you plan on coming through.
You can check the e-vite out here

James Bond: Quantum of Solace Review

I finally got a chance to check out the new bond flick, ‘Quantum of Solace’ last night after having heard mixed reviews.  I’ve seen each film at least twice; what can I say, it’s a classic series.  Although Sean Connery is the OG when it comes to playing Bond, Daniel Craig’s character is one that I am growing more and more fond of (pause?)

One of the great things about a Bond film are the villain(s).  Usually, the goals and schemes of the villains are borderline outrageous, even comedic to an extent.  However, in Quantum of Solace, the goal is politically complex, yet still believable.  I won’t even get into it because I’ll ruin the movie for those like REDEF who still haven’t seen it.

Sidenote: Perhaps the greatest Bond villain of all time is Sanchez from Licence to Kill.. Dude is completely and utterly ruthless. This guy feeds people to sharks, allows his men to rape and kill Leiter’s brand new bride, cuts out his mistress’ lover’s heart, whips his mistress, throws people into a decompression chamber and then releases pressure watching their heads explode lol, tries to feed Bond into a gigantic shredder, shoots his own financial advisor with a god damn Uzi, and then goes after 007 with a machete. He is one bad mother.. !

Then of course, there are the bond girls..! Brunettes over blondes… So Olga Kurylenko wins, and does a pretty good job at playing her role as Camille.

Throw in the cars and action sequences and you have another Bond movie worth watching.  I gotta say though, the lack of ‘gadgets’ and the mediocre ending definately ruin the potential this movie had.. Still an entertaining one.. 7/10 !

No one beats this guy though:

Guitar Hero… DJ Hero?

Coming sooner than later.. Came across a bunch of articles and pieced them together. Hmmm….. INTERESTING…

Trademork is reporting that Activision has applied for a trademark for the name DJ Hero earlier this month. There’s not a whole lot of details at the moment but in legal terms, the trademark refers to “computer game software and related instruction manual sold together as a unit; interactive video game programs; computer game discs; downloadable software for use in connection with computer games; video game controllers; interactive video game comprised of a CD or DVD sold as a unit with a video game controller.”

“Yeah, Activision are currently making a “DJ Hero” game, but they’ve been trying to get one made for years. Problem being that, unlike rock music, a lot of dance and hip-hop music is a licensing rights nightmare thanks to copyright laws regarding the use of sampling (not to mention the fact the game will encourage you to create your own mixes). So for the longest time, it looked like a “DJ Hero” game was nothing more than a pipe dream. That was until Activision went and merged with Vivendi, however, giving them access to Universal’s record label catalogue. Making the copyright stuff a little less tough. Wonder how big a role this project played in discussions between the two companies?”

“DJ Hero, a music rhythm game that will let gamers scratch to the beat of popular mash-ups with a laptop turntable peripheral, informed sources tell us today.

The game, which has been in development for nearly two years, is expected to hit shelves next summer and will likely include the ability to use Guitar Hero guitars for versus mode face-offs.

The controller, key to the game’s success, has been through nearly a half-dozen iterations.

In the latest form, the device looks a lot like a simplified DJ Deck. There is a platter for scratching which will act like the strum toggle on a Guitar Hero guitar. Above the platter are three buttons for sampling. The controller also includes a cross fader and a sound effects dial which will act like the whammy bar in Guitar Hero.

Instead of flowing the musical notes down a guitar neck, DJ Hero will flow the music down and around a virtual record in a half arc. Either left top to middle bottom if you are left handed, or right top to middle bottom if you are right handed.

To play you will have to either hold a sample button and scratch, just hold a button or just scratch as the neon icons flow around the virtual vinyl.

Currently the wireless controller has grooves molded into the bottom so it will sit comfortably in a player’s lap, though the team is also looking into legs for the deck so gamers can play while standing up.

The game in its current form features all mash-ups, think Beyonce Vs Jimi Hendrix, 50 cent Vs Beastie Boys. If they can nail the interface and get licensing for the music this could be a mammoth hit..”

Thoughts??

Screw You Blackberry!!!

I seem to have the worst luck with Blackberry’s.. Either that, or everything I touch tends to break. My bold has been freezing all night/day and the battery life SUCKS.  Honestly, they need to drop a model for power users that will not freeze and/or consistently mess up.  Don’t mind me, just venting. The Bold is good, but not all it’s cracked up to be! I feel like I’m in an abusive relationship I can’t get out of.. lol.

My styles off the thermostat, plus I’m coming from the cold..!

Do you remember when this Kardi track dropped? The way these drums are programmed are retarded..! Then the remix dropped with Bounty and it was a wrap!! It’s cold as hell in Toronto right now & I feel like old man winter is laughing hysterically, plotting and scheming what’s to come over the next few months..

Nonetheless, felt like revisiting some Classic Material.

Zaki Ibrahim - Eclectica (Episodes In Purple)

Much too often, I hear someone complain about the lack of soulful and fulfilling r&b music in this day and age.  However, Zaki’s sound is much more than simply ‘r&b’ and this has not escaped my car’s speakers since I received it 2 days ago..! Open your ears, and listen.

New Mixtape, New Podcast, Usher Private VIP Party, 3 Cities in 3 Days, New Saturday Night Residency ‘Live To Air’ 11-12pm, & November Updates..!

Damn, that was a long sentence.  Before I get into anything, let me just put this out there…  Imagine having a blackberry with no letter ‘A’ key.  As in, the letter ‘A’ button, which conveniently is the ‘*’ button as well, ceases to function. I tend to break these things fairly quickly.

The last four days have been a mess; not having an ‘a’ key when on the road all day is like having a mouth that works, and a brain telling it what to say, but not being able to physically say it. Beyond frustrating.. The letter ‘A’ also happens to be one of two most commonly used letters when typing!

Thankfully, Rogers will be providing the new phone, and I should have a new PIN by tomorrow. So.. just call me if you need me.  To all those whom I’ve sent texts, emails, and BBM’s that sound like you are communicating with a 3 yr old, my apologies!

‘Nuff talking. Getting in to things..

This one’s fairly self explanatory.. If you are familiar with the last two ‘Bridging The Gap’ series (see: New York & Chicago) of mixed compilations, then you know what to expect.  Good looking out to everyone who came through on this project, from both Toronto & North Carolina.  Production & emcees are from either of the two cities, and the project is hosted by Little Brother over a year ago when they were in Toronto, promoting their Getback LP. For various reasons (other mixtapes, parties, tours, my own laziness, etc) I never ended up getting back to this until I found out that they were coming back to TO for another tour.. Time flies.  I’m happy its out, although wish I got to spend more time on it.. but such is life. Shouts to Big Dho aka MR DOITALL BITCH!

Again, DOWNLOAD IT HERE temporarily, until I put it into the Mixtapes archive.
